  • Native language Russian; effectively bilingual and equally comfortable with English and Russian languages

I have a university degree in translation and over 15 years professional experience, which includes in-house work as a translator at one of the largest US law firms LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, LLP (present name Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP), other businesses, and years of successful full-time freelance work.

As a freelance translator, I have clients among law firms, translation agencies, businesses and non-profit organizations in North America, Europe and other parts of the world.  While I primarily specialize in the field of legal translation, my expertise is not limited to this area.  As a translator I have worked on a variety of topics and subjects that represent such fields as international relations, military and law enforcement techniques, human rights issues, education and other areas.  Since 2002 I have translated hundreds of thousands of words under the law enforcement training and assistance projects, including applicable legal framework, subcontracted to me by two translation agencies for a US Government client.  Between 2005 and 2007 I have worked on what was at that time one of the most high profile legal cases, which involved translating hundreds of pages of Russian court awards and decisions, from Russian into English.

On a day-to-day basis I am actively exposed to and use both languages, English and Russian.  Even though I live away from the county of my native language, I spend considerable time reading and listening to the Russian media, talking with friends who live in Russia, and this helps me keeping up-to-date with new language tendencies.  The translations I am offering will never be less perfectly "Russian", compared to the translations by the translators residing in Russia,  while my excellent knowledge of the English language and daily exposure to its active use help me being able to see deep linguistic nuances and fully convey them in a target document.

As a translator, I have all equipment and technical solutions I need to efficiently work at a distance from my clients, such as 24-hour high speed cable Internet access backed up by a separate connection to guarantee uninterrupted Internet access, up-to-date software and computers.  Of course, I work in full compliance with all Canadian permit, registration and tax requirements, as an individual translator.

In Canada, in 2005, I have been awarded a prestigious title of Certified Translator (Canada) – certified through The Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta, ATIA, the professional accreditation organization for translators in Alberta, Canada; I am also a member of The Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council, CTTIC, by affiliation.
The process to obtain this title involved undergoing through the stages of exams, with traditionally very low passing rates, and I have successfully passed them all in first attempt.

As a Certified Translator I am bound by and fully subscribe to the terms of the Code of Ethics of The Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta, aimed to ensure quality of translation work and confidentiality guarantee.

Since 2002 I have been listed as a translation services supplier approved to provide translation services to the
Government of Canada, through the Translation Bureau, Public Works and Government Services in Ottawa, and since 2005 approved as a translator allowed to provide translation services to the Government of the Province of Alberta.
